One of the elements I found very downplayed when it comes to Digouts is Roll's job as an Operator (even if the idea of Roll just sitting comfortably while Rock does all the hard work is always hilarious). Much like real-life mining and tasks which involve large physical risk, I like to think of Roll's responsibility as literally mission control and coordination to ensure Rock's safety and ability to carry out tasks in the most efficient manner possible. After all, information gathering and reconnaissance is serious stuff than can make or break a situation.

On the other hand, it's a good thing gameplay-wise that constant radio chatter isn't a big presence in the games to avoid lots of stop-and-go gameplay like with Alia in X5.
